Do Disney sites sent viruses?

So, my kids used to play Magic KIngdom on the internet. We got maybe three viruses from the site itself. I thought some hacker had planted a virus so thought nothing of it. Then my kids started to play Pirates Online. They got a load of viruses on that one and the computer would shut down for about thrity minutes randomly. I took it to a professinol techniation and they said it was from visiting an infected website. I completely told them not to go to Toon Town or play their games! That was a while ago. Now the childeran and I forgot the rule and they played on disney.com and what do you know we got viruses! Now everything is completely defected and fine. Has anyone else had this problem. Our computer is pretty good and we have AVG that is paid for and the free version of Spy bot and Ad-Aware. Do you have this problem?
Strange, because we hardly ever get a virus now. But when they played Disney games it was pretty high up there.

It’s the ads.

Just about every major website carries some amount of malware through their ads.

If you are using Internet Explorer for your browser, you can change the file permissions on the local settings folder to deny execute/traverse permission. This will prevent malware from executing and infecting, no patches or security software needed. The same idea can be applied to Flash and all add-ons as well.

A custom hosts file is also a good idea and will have the advantage of blocking most ads and malware domains. You can find one here: http://synfulvisions.com/index.php/downtst?task=download&cid[0]=6 It’s a hosts file that I have used numerous times on client machines, and I decided to stick it on one of my servers for convenience.

AVG is a terrible anti-virus. Free or paid. It lacks meaningful heuristic capabilities, and has no rootkit detection. You’re better off with Avira or Avast for free solutions, Nod32 or Norton 2009 for paid solutions.
