How to add some color to a black and white picture?

I am familiar with the manual process in a photo lab, but i know this could be accomplished through some computer software.
I own a MAC, and want to add color to only the lips of the picture on my profile. Does anyone know which software to use (free downloads). Thanks 
Download the GIMP 2 and it’s free.
That kind of editing is called “Selective Coloring” and you can find it in google.
