What computer specs should I look for?
I need a desktop for my kids – 1 elementary, 1 middle school. I’ll get one with Windows 7 and will also install MS Office 2007. Other than that, it needs to be able to run their online games like Wizards 101, Free Realms, etc. and other games like SimCity 4000. Also play music and maybe run videos. We keep our computers a long time – their current desktop is about 9 years old; this one will need to last at least 5 years.
So…what minimum specifications should I look for? What processor, RAM, video card, etc. I’m hoping to spend around $800 or less, but can spend more if I need to.
I’ve been configuring specialised PCs of late. Here’s something i gathered from my years of experience, fyi, gigabyte is a must.
This should be your iternary, if you’re not sure, bring this list to your local computer mart, get them to fix a quotation for you, and advise you on what to do. Then do a comparison at another shop (:
- Gigabyte EP45-DS3R
- Intel Core 2 Quad 9400
- 4GB DDR2-667MHz
- PowerColor ATI RADEON HD4850
- Western Digital 320GB HDD 7200rpm
- Antec Truepower 550Watts
- Any DVD Burner drive will do.
- Look for a casing that looks pleasant for you
This cost around $800 in my local computer farms. A pretty mid-range to high-end system that will last you at least 5 years.
