Is It Wrong To Be A Child In Second Life (Online Virtual Game) As I Find It Fun And I Love Being A Kid?
I’ve recently changed my avatar to a child and been getting bad feedback from others in the Christian community for being a child instead of an adult. They stated reason as of why because of the child abuse found in Second Life and that I might attract them upon myself and that I won’t be taken seriously. But, to me Second Life is what you make it to be. I own a ministry there for the unsure or unbelievers to find answers to questions about God and I am told that this might drag attention away from my ministry.
To boil it down. I am a child avatar because the clothing for women in Second Life tend to be all revealing. I also like being a child because it is fun and that is my personality in real life. I also like to experience some things in Second Life that I never had a chance to experience in Real Life. I feel like I am being attacked for choosing this avatar. And I don’t want to change. But I am not sure what to do. I am will to listen and to hear advice. So Shoot!
First of all, don’t listen to people’s opinions if they themselves do not actually use Second Life OR have spent much time there.
I use Second Life regularly and I see child avatars all the time. It is a concern that some sick people might either create a child avatar for pedophilic fantasies–or look for other child avatars for the same reasons–but to be honest, most of the child avatars I’ve seen were just people like yourself, harmlessly roleplaying as kids because they felt they could goof around more that way and just enjoy being silly. (Plenty of normal adult avatars do the same). Ultimately, there’s no reason you can’t zip around as a kiddie av if you want to; Second Life offers you that freedom.
If people in SL or RL can’t get past your appearance because you look like a child in SL, I wonder how they would react if you were to, say, look like a scorpion or a robot or a dragon or a tree or a scarecrow (I have all of those avs). You might point out to them that in Second Life–as in real life–appearances are little more than a superficial guise. The person behind the appearance is what they ought to be paying attention to; and if they still can’t get over your appearance, that means that they’re superficial. It’s just that simple.
